This splendid lake located just seven km from Bhimtal is perched on a height of around one thousand three hundred and seventy meters. Beauty of these lakes is augmented by the oak forest surrounding the lakes. First lake of Sattal the Nal Damayanti Lake has a mythological legend about its name and origin. If you proceed further you will see the Ashram of the American missionary Stanley Johns. Just a few meters from this Ashram are the group of lakes including Panna, Ram Laxman and Sita Lake. The name Sattal indicates a group of seven lakes which can be listed as Nal-Damyanti, Laxman, Panna, Purna, Sita, Khurdariya and Garud Tal. These lakes located at a great height are covered beautifully with Pine and Oak forests. Since this region is a protected area, sighting of incredible bird life and animal life is an additional advantage of the place.
